In today’s Gospel, Jesus shares the parable of the ten virgins, a story that speaks volumes about readiness and vigilance. Five of the virgins were wise, bringing extra oil for their lamps, while the other five were foolish, unprepared for the delay of the bridegroom. This parable invites us to reflect on our spiritual preparedness and the importance of being ready to meet Christ at any moment.
The readings remind us that wisdom is a guiding light in our lives. As we read in Wisdom 6:12-16, wisdom is resplendent and unfading, eagerly sought by those who love her. This wisdom teaches us to be vigilant and to anticipate the coming of the Lord. The wise virgins exemplify this preparedness, showing us that our personal relationship with God requires effort and attentiveness.
Moreover, the assurance found in 1 Thessalonians encourages us not to grieve like those without hope. Our faith in the resurrection of Jesus assures us of eternal life with Him.
