Singer Spice Diana Breaks up with Manager Roger Lubega

Celebrated Ugandan singer Spice Diana has reportedly launched her own music label, marking what appears to be the end of her long and successful partnership with manager Roger Lubega.

According to local media reports, the “Regular” hitmaker has unveiled a new label dubbed 9Yard, under which she will now oversee her entire music career, brand management, and business ventures. While Spice Diana has not publicly confirmed quitting Source Management, the launch of 9Yard has all but made the split official.

For nearly a decade, Spice Diana and Roger worked hand in hand to build one of the most formidable brands in Uganda’s entertainment scene. Under Roger’s management, Spice Diana transformed from a promising talent into one of the country’s most recognizable female artists, delivering a consistent run of hits and commanding major stages both locally and internationally.

Rumors of tension and a possible split had circulated since early 2025, though both parties repeatedly downplayed the reports — until now.

Sources close to the singer reveal that she is now taking full control of her career and plans to expand 9Yard into a talent incubator, mentoring and signing upcoming artists. This move positions her among a growing list of Ugandan musicians turning to self-management and label ownership, a trend reshaping the country’s entertainment industry.

Industry observers note that artist–manager relationships often evolve as stars grow in influence and business acumen. While managers like Roger typically play a vital role in building an artist’s brand, long-term partnerships can strain under the pressures of success, creative control, and financial independence. Similar shifts have been seen in global music circles, where artists such as Beyoncé and Burna Boy eventually took ownership of their management and label operations.

The creation of 9Yard signals a new chapter — one that blends artistry with entrepreneurship and reflects a changing era in Uganda’s music business, where artists are increasingly calling the shots on their careers.
