Kampala, Uganda –Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has issued his Christmas and New Year message for 2026, calling for unity, peace and fair elections as Uganda faces many challenges. The message, delivered in Luganda and dated December 22, 2025, thanks God for life and urges people to remain faithful, hardworking and alert in an election year.
The Kabaka has raised serious concern about election violence and intimidation. He condemns acts where people are beaten, candidates are blocked from meeting voters and human rights are violated. He calls on the Electoral Commission to act fairly and ensure all candidates can campaign freely without fear.
These concerns come as Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections, which have already been marked by tension. The Kabaka warns that elections today involve too much money and asks where this money comes from. He says such politics block good leaders and push those elected to recover their spending through corruption. He urges voters to be careful and make wise choices.
The Kabaka also speaks about economic hardships, especially unpredictable weather that has affected farming. He notes that expected rains did not come, damaging crops like maize and beans. He calls for better food storage, irrigation and lower taxes on farm equipment to help farmers cope.
On security, he warns about the return of child kidnappings linked to ritual killings and attacks by armed criminals at night. He urges communities to protect children, families and property.
He ends by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a peaceful, healthy New Year. Signed personally, the message calls on Ugandans to face the future with unity, good morals and resilience as the country heads toward the 2026 elections.
