KAMPALA, Uganda — Achilla Gift Grace, known on X as @GiftGrace01, has been elected the new president of Ugandans On X (UOX), becoming the first woman to lead the influential online community since its formation nearly a decade ago.
Her victory marks a milestone for the digital platform, formerly known as Ugandans on Twitter (UOT), which has grown into one of Uganda’s most visible online communities for public debate, activism, business promotion and national conversations.
Achilla will succeed outgoing president Gideon Nova Kwikiriza, whose administration is widely credited by supporters with expanding the voice of UOX beyond the X platform and pushing conversations around Uganda’s digital economy.
Election Results
According to the final poll results released after a 24-hour vote under the hashtag #UOXDecides26, Achilla won a competitive four candidate race with 42.5 percent of the vote.
The final standings were:
- @GiftGrace01 — 42.5%
- @Kirya_ug — 38.2%
- @MaamaUganda02 — 11.9%
- @Kutegyekaivan1 — 7.4%
Historic First
Achilla’s election is significant because she is the first female president in the history of UOX/UOT leadership, a symbolic shift for a community long shaped by male leaders.
She enters office at a time when online communities in Uganda are becoming more influential in politics, entrepreneurship, civic engagement and public opinion.
Who Is Achilla Gift Grace?
Achilla Gift Grace is a Ugandan lawyer, human rights activist and youth leader based in Kampala. She has built a profile online through advocacy, youth leadership and public engagement.
She previously served as head of a pro bono legal desk for UOX, and is also known for promoting inclusion and civic participation.
Her legal background and activism are expected to shape her leadership style as the community navigates issues such as digital rights, youth opportunities and responsible online engagement.
End of the Nova Era
Achilla takes over from Gideon Nova Kwikiriza, who led UOX from 2024 to 2026.
Nova’s tenure focused heavily on the digital economy, creator monetization and policy advocacy. His administration drew attention through campaigns such as #BringStripeToUg, which called for better international payment access for Ugandan creators and freelancers.
Users say Nova helped transform UOX from an online social space into a broader platform for economic advocacy and creator awareness.
A Brief History of UOX
Ugandans On X traces its roots to around 2017, when Ugandans on Twitter began organizing informally to amplify local conversations, support businesses and connect users.

Past leaders include:
- Fred Mwebya (2017 to 2019), seen by many as a founding era leader
- AIGP Asan Kasingye (2019 to 2020), elected during one of the first structured polls
- Patrick Kanyomozi (2021 to 2023), whose era emphasized clearer leadership roles
- Gideon Nova Kwikiriza (2024 to 2026), associated with digital economy advocacy
Following Twitter’s rebrand to X, the community adopted the name Ugandans On X (UOX).
From us at Kalisho (@KalishoInfo), we wish Achilla Gift Grace the best of her term.
