KAMPALA, Uganda — Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) General Secretary Fadil Twalla has clarified that the organisation’s appointed regional vice chairpersons are the only officials authorised to serve as regional coordinators in their respective areas.
In a statement, Twalla said the regional coordination roles automatically follow the appointments made by PLU Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The officials named in the statement are Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, the Minister of Local Government as the Western Region Vice Chairperson; Lilian Aber, the State Minister of Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees as the Northern Region Vice Chairperson; and Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs as the Central Region Vice Chairperson.
“By virtue of their appointments as Regional Vice Chairpersons, these officers automatically serve as the Regional Coordinators for their respective regions,” Twalla said.
He warned against individuals claiming regional coordination positions outside the designated leadership structure.
“Regional coordination falls exclusively within the mandate of the appointed Regional Vice Chairpersons. No other person should claim or present themselves as a Regional Coordinator,” he said.
The clarification comes at the time as the PLU continues the nationwide signature collection to endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2031 presidential election.
In the statement, Eastern Region was not catered for as regards the Vice Chairperson or Coordinator.
The announcement reinforces the organisation’s stated position on regional coordination and the authority of its appointed leaders.
