MUKONO, Uganda — One person was killed and several students were injured after a school bus carrying learners from Mwebaze High School in Kakiri collided with a train at a railway level crossing in Mukono District on Friday morning.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the crash occurred at about 6:45 a.m. on July 10, 2026, at Namumira–Bukasa Village in Kyetume Parish, Nakisunga Subcounty, along the Katosi Road in Mukono District.
The bus was transporting students to Jinja District for an educational trip when it was struck by the train at the railway crossing.

CCTV footage circulating on social media appears to show a man attempting to signal the approaching school bus to stop before it reached the railway crossing. However, the bus continued onto the tracks and was struck by the oncoming train. The footage has since become a key point of public discussion, although police have not confirmed whether it will form part of the investigation.
