Kampala, Uganda – Rajiv Ruparelia, the 35-year-old son of prominent Ugandan businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, died in a fatal car accident early Saturday morning, May 3, 2025. According to the Uganda Police report, “On 03/05/2025 at 1:54am, a white Nissan GTR (UAT 638L) crashed, overturned & caught fire at Busabala flyover.” The police confirmed Rajiv was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Rajiv Ruparelia served as the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, a conglomerate founded by his father, overseeing businesses in real estate, hospitality, and education. He was known for his hands-on approach, contributing to projects like Speke Resort and Crane Bank’s expansion before its controversial closure. Rajiv was also involved in motorsport, often participating in rally events across East Africa. His leadership and charisma made him a respected figure in Uganda’s business community.

The accident occurred along the Entebbe Expressway, a busy route connecting Kampala to Entebbe International Airport. Deputy Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire noted that the vehicle caught fire after overturning, complicating rescue efforts. SP Michael Kananura, police spokesperson, stated, “The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined; however, investigations are underway.” The police have promised updates as more details emerge.

Rajiv’s death has sent shockwaves through Uganda, with tributes pouring in from business leaders and community members. He was seen as a key figure in continuing the Ruparelia Group’s legacy, which includes landmarks like Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort. Recently, Rajiv had been spearheading initiatives to expand the group’s real estate portfolio in Kampala. His loss is a significant blow to both his family and Uganda’s business sector.
