KAMPALA, Uganda — The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has released the official shortlist of successful applicants for its 2026 nationwide recruitment exercise, marking the next stage in the enlistment process for thousands of aspiring recruits across the country.
The shortlist follows an extensive online application process that attracted applicants from all districts of Uganda. It includes candidates selected for both the regular forces and the specialised professional cadre.
According to the UPDF, shortlisted candidates are required to report for the physical recruitment exercise in their respective districts between July 20 and Aug. 1, 2026. During this phase, applicants will undergo physical screening and document verification before final selection.
The 2026 recruitment drive seeks to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities by enlisting both general duty personnel and qualified professionals in key fields. These include education, aviation, health, law, engineering, sports and music.
The military says recruiting professionals alongside regular personnel will enhance its operational effectiveness, expand technical expertise, improve medical and legal services, and strengthen administrative capacity across the force.
The exercise also provides an opportunity for eligible Ugandans seeking careers in the national army while contributing to the country’s security and development.
