Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, commonly known as Chairman Nyanzi, a senior figure in the National Unity Platform (NUP), and the father to Makerere University Guild President, Churchhill, has publicly called on him to apologize to Ugandans following a controversial meeting with President Yoweri Museveni at the Makerere Research and Innovation Week that is ongoing at Makerere University.
In a video, Chairman Nyanzi expresses deep disappointment in his son’s recent actions, stating that Churchhill’s engagement with the head of state has caused pain and confusion among supporters of the opposition. He urged his son to either offer a sincere apology to Ugandans or consider stepping down if he is no longer aligned with the values of the struggle.

The comments come in the wake of Churchhill’s meeting with President Museveni. The development sparked debate and criticism on social media, particularly among supporters of NUP, a party founded to challenge President Museveni’s decades-long rule.
Chairman Nyanzi, an elder brother to NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), did not mince words as he reminded Ugandans of the painful sacrifices made during the 2021 general elections. He accused President Museveni of having “hands stained with the blood of many of our supporters,” referring to numerous documented cases of abductions, detentions, and deaths linked to the election period.
