KICHWAMBA, Kabarole — Burahya County won the fifth edition of the Tooro Kingdom MTN Amasaza Cup on Saturday after beating Mwenge South 3-0 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time at Uganda Technical College Kichwamba.

The victory gave Burahya their second Amasaza Cup title after their 2024 triumph, when they also beat Fort Portal City on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the final.

The 2026 final brought together two former champions, with Mwenge South having won the title in 2023 before Burahya claimed the following edition. The two sides had also met in the third place playoff in 2025, when Burahya won 1-0.

Burahya entered Saturday’s final after eliminating Fort Portal City 3-2 on aggregate in the semifinals. They had won the first leg 2-1 before drawing 1-1 in the return match on Oct. 18.

Mwenge South reached the final after eliminating Kitagwenda 1-0 in their semifinal tie, with Joram Seruwagi scoring the decisive goal.

The final marked the completion of a tournament that had been interrupted following the death of former Tooro monarch Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV on Aug. 27, 2026. The competition resumed in October after consultations with the new Omukama, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I.

The fifth edition brought together nine teams representing counties in the Tooro Kingdom. The tournament also featured women’s netball alongside football.

The football champions were set to receive Shs15 million, while the runners up would take Shs9 million. The increased prize money was part of the tournament’s 2026 edition, up from the Shs12 million awarded to Kyaka County after its 2025 title.

The tournament has continued to provide a platform for football talent across Tooro while bringing supporters from different counties together through sport and cultural activities.

For Burahya, Saturday’s victory adds another title to a strong record in the competition. The county finished third in 2023, won the championship in 2024 and returned to third place in 2025 before reclaiming the crown in 2026.
