KAMPALA, Uganda — The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the 2026 examination timetables for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), setting the dates for more than 1.6 million candidates across the country.
UNEB Executive Director Dan N. Odongo said the examination season will begin with the briefing of UCE candidates on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026. PLE candidates will be briefed on Friday, Oct. 30, while UACE candidates will have their briefing on Friday, Nov. 6.
The 2026 UCE examination will be the third cohort assessed under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). UACE candidates will, meanwhile, become the first group to sit the new competency based A Level examination after being the pioneer cohort to study under the CBC at Senior Four.
UNEB said the 2026 examinations will be conducted under the theme: “Advancing excellence in assessment and certification through secure, credible, inclusive and innovative processes.”
According to the latest registration figures, 1,627,885 candidates had registered for the three examinations by Sept. 22, 2026. This is 211,437 more candidates than the 1,416,448 registered in 2025, representing an increase of about 14.9%.
The 2025 figure had already marked a rise in registration compared with previous years. UNEB reported 1,416,448 candidates for the three national examinations last year.
About 52% of the 2026 candidates are female, according to UNEB.
The increase means examination centres, schools and parents will be preparing for one of the largest examination cohorts in recent years.
Warning over fake examination papers
Odongo also warned the public against individuals claiming to possess UNEB examination papers before the examinations.
UNEB said such claims are fraudulent and warned candidates and parents against paying for purported leaked papers. The Board has previously cautioned that such actions can attract penalties under the UNEB Act.
With the examinations approaching, UNEB has called on candidates to concentrate on their preparation and follow the official timetable and examination guidelines.
