The Nebbi Catholic Diocese in Uganda is all set for a historic event as the consecration and installation of the new bishop, Constantine Rupiny, has been officially scheduled for Saturday, February 22nd, 2025. This significant ceremony will be followed by a thanksgiving Mass on Sunday, February 23rd, coinciding with the Diocesan Day, as announced by Rev. Fr. Robert Lukwiya Ochola MCCJ, Chancellor of Nebbi Catholic Diocese.
“Am glad to announce to you that our bishop-elect MSGR Constantine Rupiny has now fixed a date for his consecration and installation namely: Saturday 22nd February 2025, and thereafter to the thanksgiving mass, the following day Sunday, the 23rd February, which is also our Diocesan Day,” the statement reads.

Born on November 10, 1974, in Parombo within the Nebbi Diocese, Rev. Fr. Constantine Rupiny was ordained a priest on August 28, 2004. His educational journey is remarkable, highlighted by a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology from Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Poland. His career has been diverse, serving in roles such as Parish Priest, Formator, Professor, Vice President of the Presbyteral Council, and Vice-Rector. Since September 2023, he has been the Rector of Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary in Alokolum, Gulu.
The preparation for this momentous occasion has galvanized the community, with Okaba Sam, head of laity at the diocese, calling for widespread support. “I call upon all parishes to organise for contribution for welcoming our bishop,” he stated, emphasizing the need for collective effort in making the ordination a memorable event. “To make arrangements… rally behind our bishop-elect,” he added, urging the Christian community to start organizing themselves.
The ordination will take place at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral in Nebbi, expected to draw thousands of Catholics, clergy from across Uganda, and dignitaries. It symbolizes not just the appointment of a new spiritual leader but also a moment of renewal and unity for the diocese.
The event is anticipated to reinforce the faith and commitment of the local Catholic community under Bishop-elect Rupiny’s leadership, who is known for his focus on youth, education, and pastoral care. His appointment by Pope Francis on November 26, 2024, was met with enthusiasm, and his diverse experience is seen as a beacon for the diocese’s future growth.
As Nebbi prepares for this significant transition, the diocese is organizing prayer sessions, catechetical teachings, and community service initiatives, ensuring that the spiritual and communal aspects of this ordination are fully embraced by all. This ceremony not only marks the beginning of Bishop Constantine Rupiny’s tenure but also sets the stage for addressing the diocese’s ongoing challenges and opportunities.
